Stiftung Digitale Chancen - Germany

Since its establishment in 2002, Stiftung Digitale Chancen (SDC) – Digital Opportunities Foundation has been dedicated to researching the social impact of digitalization, advocating for equal access to the internet, and promoting digital literacy. With a strong focus on digital inclusion, SDC works to bridge the digital divide, ensuring that all societal groups - especially vulnerable populations - can benefit from digital opportunities

SDC operates under the patronage of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. SDC collaborates with public institutions, civil society organizations, and private sector partners, implementing projects funded by national and European programs as well as corporate contributions. The SDC Advisory Board, comprising representatives from 32 major German civil society organizations and governmental institutions, provides strategic guidance and expertise to support its mission. SDC’s work is project-based and targets diverse  audiences, with activities structured into three core areas:

  • Digital Society: Digitisation is shaping our day-to-day life in many aspects and has a huge impact on societal processes. This development needs to be researched, shaped, and put into context.
  • Digital Inclusion: No access to and lack of knowledge for a competent usage of digital resources can cause or further social disparity. SDC enables and fosters the digital inclusion of all people.
  • Digital Competence: A vital prerequisite for digital inclusion is digital competence. Training must be imparted in a target group - oriented way via innovative formats.
